In a fiercely contested 3rd edition of the Asante Presbytery JHS Science and Maths Competition, Ejisu Presbyterian Junior High School (JHS) emerged victorious, narrowly edging out six other competing schools. Ejisu Presbyterian JHS scored 80 points, narrowly surpassing SSNIT Presbyterian Model School, which finished as the first runner-up with 77 points.
The other participating schools included Asonomaso Presby JHS (65 points), Adumasa All Saints (59 points), Afari Presby JHS (55 points), New Bethel Atonsu (52 points), and Akomadan JHS (44 points).
At the event, Rev. Samuel Ahima-Yeboah, the Chairperson of the competition, emphasized the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s strong commitment to education. He highlighted the substantial investments made by the church in education and noted that the JHS Science and Maths Quiz was designed to ignite students’ interest in Science, Mathematics, and overall STEM education.
Rev. Ahima-Yeboah encouraged Districts, Congregations, and individuals to continue prioritizing education and to allocate funds to support Presbyterian schools across the Presbytery.
Rev. Alexander Nyantakyi, Regional Manager of Presbyterian Schools, underscored the importance of the Presbytery’s sponsorship of the competition, citing it as one of the many initiatives aimed at helping Presbyterian schools remain at the forefront of academic excellence both regionally and nationally.
Prizes awarded to the winners included sets of exercise books, backpacks, jerseys, footballs, and medals. Ejisu Presbyterian JHS, represented by students Stephanie Gyamfi and Sylvester Owusu, proudly took home the coveted trophy.
The event was attended by distinguished guests including Rev. Samuel Adu-Gyamfi, Clerk of Presbytery; Rev. J.H. Ofosuhene (Rtd), Chairperson of the Education Committee of the Presbytery; Mrs. Kate Dakwah Fokuo, Director of Education; and other officials from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
