The Sepe Owusu-Ansah Preaching Point of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana was on Sunday, 20th October 2024 officially elevated to full congregation status, now known as Grace Congregation. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. Erick Kwesi Adjepong, District Minister of Yennyawoso District, with the assistance of the District Standing Committee.

This milestone comes eight years after the establishment of the preaching point, during which the congregation demonstrated remarkable growth and commitment, warranting its elevation to a full congregation. Starting with just eleven (11) members, Grace Congregation has grown steadily and now boasts a permanent membership of 91.

Performing the act of erection, Rev. Adjepong praised the members for their dedication and hard work in fostering the rapid development of the congregation. He also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Sepe Owusu-Ansah, Nana Gyedu II, for granting the congregation a permanent place of worship, as well as  donating a plot of land to the congregation. “This single gesture by the Chief has propelled the congregation to growth,” Rev. Adjepong remarked.

As part of the service, the newly elected Presbyters of Grace Congregation were inducted into office. Catechist Abraham Boateng, the Catechist-in-Charge, recounted the humble beginnings of the congregation, which started in the home of a benevolent church member. He noted that, through God’s grace, the congregation now has a permanent place of worship, a dedicated space for the Children’s Service, and a washroom. Reflecting on these blessings, the leadership settled on the name “Grace” as a fitting name for the congregation.

The elevation ceremony attracted several notable figures, including Rev. Samuel Kwaku Darko, the Asante Presbytery Mission & Evangelism Director; Nana Gyedu II, Chief of Sepe Owusu-Ansah  along with his elders;, Revd’s. Gordon Quaoa, Maxwell Asah Darko, Enock O. frimpong,  and past and present members of Grace Congregation, all of whom joined in celebrating this significant achievement.

The elevation marks a new chapter for Grace Congregation. Congratulations.

BRIEF HISTORY

The history of Grace Congregation began with the vision of Rev. Gordon Quao Amoah and the local session of Living Hope Congregation in late 2016. Their goal to establish a new church preaching point was supported by Rev. H.D. Asirifi, the District Minister, and the district session. Through house-to-house evangelism led by Rev. Gordon and committed members, souls were won, and on November 20, 2016, the first Sunday service was held in the home of a local couple who graciously offered their space. The congregation began with only 11 members, but through prayer meetings and continued evangelism, the numbers steadily grew.

As the congregation expanded, Rev. Gordon and the session sought land for a permanent place of worship. With the help of the chief of Sepe Owusu Ansah, three plots of land were secured, with one plot generously gifted by the chief. Through the support of Living Hope Congregation and other philanthropists, a pavilion was constructed, and on December 3, 2018, Sepe Owusu Ansah Preaching Point was officially inaugurated. Over time, various groups such as children’s services, Y.P.G., and Women’s Fellowship were established, and the congregation continued to grow despite challenges like financial difficulties and environmental issues.

By July 2024, the preaching point was on the verge of being elevated to a full congregation, adopting the name “Grace Congregation” as a reflection of the journey they had experienced. From humble beginnings, Grace Congregation now stands as a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and community, with growing membership and a deep commitment to spreading God’s love in the community.
