Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, the immediate past President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, is now Moderator elect of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. This is after the ill health of the sitting Moderator of GA, Rt. Rev. Prof. Cephas Narh Omenyoh has  made it difficult for him to continue to his full term.

He takes over from the Rt. Rev. Prof. Cephas Narh Omenyo (Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana) who is currently indisposed. The General Assembly Council of the church decided on Friday, August 17 to declare the Moderator’s seat vacant in order to elect a new leader. This was announced during the just ended General Assembly to commemorate the Centenary of the Synod of PCG. A very important history in in the celebration is the commemoration of the first time an African was made a Moderator.

Rev. Prof. J.O.Y. Mante was officially declared Moderator after receiving 156 nominations as against Rev. Dr. Gordon Nii Noi Odonkor (28) and Rev. Dr. Victor Okoe Abbey (19).

He holds an MA, MPhil and PhD in Systematic Theology and Philosophy of Religion from Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, California in the USA.

Rev. Prof. Mante has served as the Board Chairman of Adom Foundation since 1996 and he is also serving on the National Accreditation Board of Ghana.

He has served on many committees and boards in Ghana and abroad over the past 20 years including the Presbyterian University College of Ghana, Presbyterian Women’s College of Education, and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches in Geneva, Switzerland.

He has been a Minister of the Gospel in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana since 1981 and he served as the Akuapem Presbytery Chairperson from 2006 to 2011.
