The National Retreat of the Children Service Teachers Fellowship has successfully ended in Kumasi, with a strong emphasis on equipping the teacher for effective ministry in today’s changing world. The retreat was held from 16th to 18th January, 2026, at the Basel Mission Guesthouse, Kumasi.
Held under the theme “Celebrating Our Heritage: Building on the Foundation Already Laid – The Children Service Teacher of Today,” the retreat brought together key leaders of the Children Service, including Presbytery Presidents and Coordinators from across the country.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Ernest Kissi Sarfo underscored the need to intentionally focus on the Children Service teacher, noting that effective ministry to children begins with a well-prepared teacher. He explained that the methods used in past generations are no longer sufficient in an era marked by artificial intelligence, rapid knowledge expansion, and digital engagement.
According to him, the Children Service teacher of today must be grounded in sound doctrine, possess strong child-handling skills, and be technologically versatile. He added that teachers must be able to leverage virtual platforms and digital tools to nurture children who are firmly rooted in Christian faith and biblical truth.

Delivering a presentation on the theme, Rev. Kwadwo Duah Agyekum highlighted key principles essential for building a strong foundation for the Church through children’s ministry. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among teachers, parents, the Church, and other stakeholders to provide holistic support for the child. He further advised Children Service teachers to pursue the collective vision and agenda of the Children’s Ministry rather than personal interests.
The retreat also provided participants with the opportunity to reflect on the theme, discuss the contents of the 2026 Children Service Guide, and engage other relevant teaching and training materials. Participants addressed pressing challenges facing the Children Service and explored practical solutions to enhance effectiveness at all levels.
The retreat ended with a thanksgiving service at the Yennyawoso Conregation.
